Lucknow: Top-seeded Uttar Pradesh player Aashi Shamsheri emerged champion in the girls’ singles category at the AITA Championship Series Under-16 Tennis Tournament, while the duo of Rohin Raj and Satvik Gupta claimed the boys’ doubles title.
Organised by SDS Tennis Academy at the La Martiniere Lawn Tennis Facility on the La Martiniere College campus, the tournament witnessed two convincing finals on Thursday.
In the girls’ singles final, top seed Aashi Shamsheri defeated second-seeded Uttar Pradesh player Anaya Sen 6-1, 6-3 to secure the championship.
Aashi dominated the opening set with an aggressive approach, giving Anaya little opportunity to settle into the contest. Anaya attempted to stage a comeback in the second set, but Aashi remained composed during the crucial points to close out the match in straight sets.
In the boys’ doubles final, second seeds Rohin Raj and Satvik Gupta defeated top seeds Virat Singh and Rishant Jaiswal 6-0, 6-4.
Rohin and Satvik produced a dominant performance in the opening set, winning it without dropping a game. Their opponents mounted a stronger challenge in the second set, but the Rohin-Satvik partnership held its nerve at key moments to secure the set 6-4 and lift the doubles trophy.
Attention now turns to the boys’ singles final, scheduled for August 28, where third-seeded Uttar Pradesh player Rohin Raj will face Haris Khan.
Having already secured the doubles crown, Rohin will now have an opportunity to complete a title double by adding the boys’ singles trophy to his collection.
